Sandy Beaches

Malta boasts several sandy beaches and with the school you can visit a different one almost every day in the summer months. Golden Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha and Gnejna Bay are situated just beyond St. Paul’s Bay. Mellieha Bay is Malta’s longest stretch of sandy beach and Paradise Bay, at the north tip of the island, is the smallest but probably the prettiest.

Mellieha Bay

sandy beach in mellieha The largest sandy beach in Malta is always very popular in summer. There are all the usual beach services such as a snack bar, ice cream sellers, as well as sun lounger hire and umbrella hire. The water is clear and the shore shelves very gently making it very child friendly. There are also plenty of water sports activities including boat hire, jet skiing and paragliding.

Golden Bay

golden bay malta On the west coast of Malta this pretty bay has a fine sandy beach ringed by cliffs. The new Radisson Hotel dominates the skyline above the beach. There is a beach bar and the water is clean and safe.
One of the best things to do on the island is to go the Golden Bay in the evening and then watch the sun set. It is a spectacular as any tropical island view.

Armier Bay

At the very north of the island is Armier Bay, a pretty sandy beach. This is very popular in summer and there is the usual range of beach facilities including a café and pedaloes for hire.

Paradise Bay

paradise bay in cirkewwa This beach lies in the northern most point of the island next to Cirkewwa on the road leading to the Gozo ferry. It is a small picturesque bay with lovely views all round. To reach the bay you will descend a number steps from a cliff-top down to the beach below. Although there are quite a few steps, the beach is surely worth it. The beach is well serviced by a good bar and restaurant which also offers other facilities including the hire of umbrellas, sun beds, showers and toilets.

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay is on the north-west coast of the island. It is very picturesque with its surrounding clay slopes. To reach the beach one has to go down the steep steps from the car park to the beach. This is a very popular beach with both locals and tourists and is normally frequented by young people. The beach is in a conservation zone.
