Akon in Malta Senegalese rapper Akon will be returning for a solo concert in Malta on August 14.

The singer-songwriter is known as one of the most successful and versatile R&B singers of the last decade. Akon rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of Locked Up, the first single from his debut album Trouble. He is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice. He has had six Grammy Awards nominations and produced hits for artists such as Lady Gaga and Leona Lewis.

The Farsons Great Beer Festival

Farsons Summer is upon us, bringing with it one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year.

Celebrating its 30th edition this year, The Farsons Great Beer Festival was held for the first time in 1981 at the Farsons Brewery in Mriehel, and has since come a long way, with various venues and formats experimented.

Organised at Ta’ Qali Park for the last number of years, the festival has grown in size, attendance, number of performances, and variety of beers offered. However, one thing remains the same: entrance is always free.

The Farsons Great Beer Festival is enjoyed by people of all ages, and the open-air entertainment caters for all tastes and preferences, making it a great family outing or night out with friends.

The festival attracts locals and tourists who flock to Ta’ Qali to support local musicians and artists while appreciating a variety of local beer brands, from the Cisk range of beers to the classic beers, Hopleaf and Blue Label – special ales brewed with passion since 1928. International beer brands such as Carlsberg, Budweiser, Guinness, Newcastle Brown Ale, Kilkenny, John Smiths, Beck’s and Corona are also available at the festival.

The food court at the festival offers a mix of dishes from all over the world, including Maltese, Turkish, Chinese, Spanish, Mexican as well as other favourites.

The official festival beer mug, collected by many year after year, is sold at the bars with the beer of choice or at the souvenir stall selling other special brand merchandise.

The festival opens from 8pm onwards each night.

Jum il-Vittorja (Victory Day)

The 8th of September is a national holiday for Malta as this date commemorates the end of the 1565 Great Siege, the end of the French occupation in Malta in the year 1800 as well as the end of Italian bombardments in 1943.
Various State ceremonies will be held in the morning and in the afternoon, a traditional rowing boat regatta will be held at the Grand Harbour. During the evening, various towns throughout Malta and Gozo celebrate" 'Our Lady of Victory' which is a traditional feast which was celebrated for the first time in 1565.

 

The Olive Oil Event

Zejt iz-Zejtun Zejt iz-Zejtun is an event which will be celebrating the olive picking season and olive pressing for oil. The place name of Zejtun in itself has its semantic connotations in the fruit of the olive trees.
